A 3-car carport needs 24-30 ft of width minimum (depending on your vehicles' widths) and 20-40 ft of length (depending on vehicle length + storage needs).
A 3-car carport needs 24-30 ft of width minimum (depending on your vehicles' widths) and 20-40 ft of length (depending on vehicle length + storage needs). Here's the breakdown:
Design your custom 3-car carport in our free 3D Builder — see your exact size, options, and pricing in minutes.
A standard 3-car metal carport is 24 feet wide at minimum — but 24 feet only works for 3 sedans parked tightly together with no room between vehicles. For 3 pickup trucks, SUVs, or any combination where you want to open doors or walk between vehicles, you need 26-30 feet of width. Length depends on vehicle length plus whether you want front/rear clearance or extra storage space.
| Vehicle Combination | Minimum Width | Comfortable Width | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 compact cars (Civic, Corolla) | 22 ft | 24 ft | Compact cars average 5'10" wide — 22 ft is tight, 24 ft gives door-opening room |
| 3 sedans (Camry, Accord) | 24 ft | 26 ft | Standard sedans are 6' wide — 24 ft parks 3 side-by-side, 26 ft adds walking space |
| 3 SUVs / crossovers (CR-V, RAV4) | 24 ft | 26 ft | Mid-size SUVs are 6'1" wide — same math as sedans |
| 3 pickup trucks (F-150, Silverado) | 26 ft | 28 ft | Full-size pickups are 6'8" wide — 26 ft is minimum, 28 ft comfortable |
| 3 large SUVs (Suburban, Expedition) | 28 ft | 30 ft | Full-size SUVs are 6'8" wide and taller — need more height clearance too |
| 3 duallies (F-350, Ram 3500) | 30 ft | 32 ft | Duallies are 7-7.5' wide — 30 ft minimum, 32 ft recommended |
| 2 cars + 1 pickup truck | 26 ft | 28 ft | Design around the pickup; 28 ft lets you open all doors |
| 2 cars + 1 workshop zone | 28 ft | 30 ft | 6-8 ft workshop zone + 2 car bays |
| 3 vehicles + walking lanes between | 30 ft | 32-36 ft | Add 2 ft per walking lane between vehicles |
3-car metal carport prices scale with three variables: footprint (width × length), height (determines wind rating + material), and framing gauge (14-gauge standard or 12-gauge for coastal/hurricane zones). All prices include steel framing, roof panels, standard color, free delivery, and professional installation.
| Size (W × L × H) | Vehicle Fit | 14-gauge Price | 12-gauge Price |

| 24 x 30 x 9Popular | 3 sedans + full storage zone | $7,495 | $9,195 |
| 26 x 24 x 10 | 3 SUVs or pickups, standard | $7,195 | $8,795 |

| 28 x 36 x 11 | 3 trucks + workshop zone | $10,495 | $12,895 |
| 30 x 30 x 11 | 3 full-size SUVs comfortably | $9,995 | $12,295 |

Bulldog Steel Structures offers rent-to-own carports on all standard 3-car carport sizes with no credit check required. For families and businesses needing 3-vehicle protection, rent-to-own is almost always the smarter move than paying cash — a 3-car carport is a $5,000-$18,000 purchase that most buyers don't want to drop on a single transaction. Monthly payments scale from $120-$500/month depending on size, gauge, and term length.
Most buyers are approved in under 10 minutes and have their 3-car carport scheduled for delivery within 2-6 weeks.
Not every "3-car" carport actually fits 3 cars comfortably. Vehicle width, door-opening space, and walking clearance all matter. Here are the real-world combinations that fit each standard width — tested against actual vehicle dimensions, not optimistic marketing.
| Vehicle Type | Width (closed) | Width (door open 1 side) | Width (both doors open) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compact car (Honda Civic) | 5'10" | 8'10" | 11'10" |
| Mid-size sedan (Camry, Accord) | 6'0" | 9'0" | 12'0" |
| Compact SUV (RAV4, CR-V) | 6'1" | 9'1" | 12'1" |
| Standard pickup (F-150, Silverado) | 6'8" | 9'8" | 12'8" |
| Full-size SUV (Tahoe, Expedition) | 6'8" | 9'8" | 12'8" |
| Lifted pickup (3-inch lift) | 6'8" | 9'8" (higher step) | 12'8" |
| Dually pickup (F-350 Dually) | 7'1" | 10'1" | 13'1" |
| Minivan (Honda Odyssey) | 6'8" | 9'8" + sliding door | 12'8" |
| Combination | Total Width Needed | Recommended Carport Width |
|---|---|---|
| 3 sedans parked tight (no door opening) | 18 ft | 22 ft (minimum tolerable) |
| 3 sedans with door opening | 27 ft | 28 ft |
| 3 sedans with walk between + door opening | 30 ft | 30 ft |
| 3 pickups parked tight | 20 ft | 24 ft (minimum tolerable) |
| 3 pickups with door opening | 30 ft | 30 ft |
| 3 pickups with walk between + door opening | 33 ft | 34 ft |
| 3 duallies with door opening | 32 ft | 32 ft |
| 2 sedans + 1 pickup, door opening | 28 ft | 28 ft |
| 3 vehicles + 6 ft workshop/storage zone | 26-32 ft (vehicles) + 6 ft | 32-38 ft |
The pattern: budget-friendly widths (22-24 ft) force you to park tight. Comfort widths (28-30 ft) let everyone open their doors fully. For families with daily use, pay the extra for comfort — tight parking becomes annoying fast.
A 3-car carport and a 3-car metal garage both cover 3 vehicles, but they're fundamentally different products with different costs and use cases. Here's when each one is the right call.
| Feature | 3-Car Carport | 3-Car Metal Garage (Enclosed) |
|---|---|---|
| Starting cost | From $5,495 | From $12,495 |
| Weather protection | Excellent for top/sun, limited for sides | Complete protection on all sides |
| Security/theft prevention | Minimal visual deterrent | Excellent (locked door + walls) |
| Workshop or storage use | Limited (open sides) | Full workshop space possible |
| Permit requirements | Often less strict | Usually requires full permit |
| Installation time | 1-2 days | 3-5 days |
| Insulation possible | No (nothing to insulate) | Yes (climate control) |
| Ventilation | Excellent — natural airflow | Needs vents or HVAC |
| Vehicle access speed | Immediate drive-in | Open door, drive in |
| Resale impact on home | +$0.60-$1 per $ invested | +$0.80-$1.20 per $ invested |
| Best for | Daily-use vehicles, open storage, mild climates | Classic cars, workshop, high-value storage, security |
A 3-car carport comes in three enclosure levels, each with different costs and protection levels. Choosing the right level depends on your climate, security needs, and whether you want workshop space.
Just roof and corner posts, all sides open
Best for: Mild climates, daily-use vehicles, maximum airflow
Walls on 1 or 2 sides (usually back + prevailing wind side)
Best for: Wind-blown rain protection, visual privacy, moderate climates
Open front for drive-through access
Best for: Workshop + vehicle access, equipment protection
4 walls + large roll-up door
Best for: Security, workshop, climate control potential
Most 3-car buyers in moderate climates choose open or partial-enclosed. Partial-enclosed on the north side (where cold wind comes from) adds surprisingly little cost while making the interior much more usable in winter.

Standard 14-gauge 3-car carports are rated for 90-115 mph wind with proper concrete anchoring. For hurricane-prone regions (Florida, Gulf Coast, Atlantic Coast), heavy snow country (Northeast, Mountain West), or any area requiring wind rating above 115 mph, 12-gauge framing is required.
| Framing + Anchor Setup | Wind Rating | Snow Load Rating | Recommended Region |
|---|---|---|---|
| 14-gauge + mobile home anchors (soil) | 90 mph | 20 lbs/sq ft | Inland, low-wind, low-snow regions only |
| 14-gauge + concrete wedge anchors | 105-115 mph | 30 lbs/sq ft | Standard inland use, mild coastal |
| 12-gauge + mobile home anchors (soil) | 115-125 mph | 40 lbs/sq ft | Moderate coastal, moderate snow (NC, VA, OH) |
| 12-gauge + concrete + hurricane straps | 140-170 mph | 60-70 lbs/sq ft | FL, TX Gulf, Atlantic Coast, Category 3+ zones, heavy snow (NY, VT, MI) |
| 12-gauge + vertical roof + concrete + straps | 170+ mph | 90+ lbs/sq ft | Direct coastal, barrier islands, Keys, extreme snow (Northern Minnesota, Alaska) |
Every 3-car carport price includes the complete structure, delivery, and professional installation. No hidden fees, no separate shipping charges, no 'crew gratuity.' Here's exactly what's included:

The minimum 3-car carport size is 22 ft wide × 20 ft long for 3 compact cars parked tight. A comfortable size for 3 standard sedans is 24 ft × 24 ft. For 3 pickup trucks or SUVs, you need 26 ft × 24 ft minimum, with 28 ft × 30 ft being more comfortable. If you want workshop space, walking lanes between vehicles, or storage, add 4-10 ft to your base dimensions.
Standard 3-car carport widths are 24, 26, 28, and 30 feet. 24 ft is the minimum for 3 standard sedans. 26 ft fits 3 SUVs or small trucks comfortably. 28 ft is the right size for 3 pickup trucks with door-opening clearance. 30 ft is the comfort size for 3 full-size trucks or 3 vehicles with workshop zone. Larger widths (32-36 ft) are available for duallies or specialty configurations.
Yes. Bulldog Steel Structures offers rent-to-own on all standard 3-car carport sizes with no credit check required. Approval is based on your initial payment (typically 1-2 months). Contract terms are 24, 36, 48, or 60 months, with no prepayment penalty for early payoff. Delivery and installation are included at no extra cost. This is the fastest way to get 3-vehicle protection without a bank loan or large upfront payment — call 888-551-2156 for instant approval.
Yes. All 3-car carport prices include free delivery and professional installation within our service area (most of the continental US). Site preparation (level ground, concrete pad if required) is the customer's responsibility and must be ready before the scheduled delivery date. Because 3-car carports are large (24+ ft wide), confirm your property has delivery truck access — most install crews need about 10 ft of unobstructed path to the install site.
Permit requirements for 3-car carports depend on your city, county, HOA, and state. Most 3-car carports are large enough to require a basic structural permit in most jurisdictions. Carports over 600 sq ft (which covers most 3-car sizes), carports in HOA communities, and carports in coastal zones almost always require permits. We provide engineering drawings for permit submission at no extra charge — just ask when ordering.
Yes, with the right configuration. For workshop use, we recommend: at least 28 ft × 30 ft size (gives 2 vehicle bays + a dedicated workshop zone along the back), 10-11 ft height (clears workshop lifts and overhead storage), partial enclosure on 2-3 sides (wind protection without losing airflow), and 12-gauge framing (supports heavier roof-mounted equipment). Fully enclosed 3-car carports with insulation make the best year-round workshops.
For most 3-car carports, a vertical roof is the best choice. Vertical roof panels run perpendicular to the ridge, which lets rain and snow slide off naturally — critical for a large roof area like a 3-car carport. Regular (rounded) roofs are the cheapest but have more leak points at the seams. A-frame horizontal roofs are a middle option. In snow country or hurricane zones, a vertical roof is required.
Most 3-car carports are installed in 1-2 days on site once site prep is complete and permits are in hand. Larger 3-car carports (30 ft wide and up) take 2-3 days. Lead time from order to installation is typically 2-6 weeks depending on your location and current manufacturing queue. For urgent orders (new home purchase, incoming storm season), ask about expedited shipping when requesting your quote.
Standard 14-gauge 3-car carports are rated for 90-115 mph wind depending on anchor configuration. For hurricane protection in Florida, Gulf Coast, Atlantic Coast, and other high-wind regions, upgrade to 12-gauge framing with concrete anchors and hurricane strapping — this configuration is rated for 140-170 mph wind, which survives Category 3+ hurricanes. For direct coastal exposure (barrier islands, Keys), add vertical roof and additional strapping for a 170+ mph rating. Because 3-car carports have a large roof area, hurricane rating matters more than for smaller carports.
Bulldog Steel Structures offers 15+ roof colors and 15+ wall colors with 2-tone paint schemes and trim upgrade options. Popular combinations for 3-car carports include Charcoal roof + White walls (modern homes), Burgundy roof + Beige walls (traditional homes), and Forest Green roof + Light Stone walls (rural properties). Design your 3-car carport in the 3D Builder to preview every color combination before ordering.
I'm really happy with the way my building turned out! Due to living in city limits I had to make changes to my original plan but working with Bryan made it easy. He was great to work with!
Bulldog Steel Structures is fantastic. We had a 24'x40' garage built with two 10' garage doors, an entry door, two windows and fully insulated for under $16,000. The whole experience was so easy. Our salesman was Bryan Valadez. Bryan was so helpful and was easily available to answer my questions. Rebekah Aldridge handled all the documents and signing of them. The whole process was great. The building is well constructed and the crew that erected it were courteous and cleaned the worksite afterwords thoroughly. They did an excellent job in a time efficient period. Our experience with Bulldog Steel Structures was just great and we highly recommend them.
I'm in early stages, just put deposit on building. I reviewed about 10 quotes and worked with many vendors in the space to assess. Constance from Bulldog Steel Structures made the experience fabulous and was key in our decision making. It's so refreshing to see a company like this have such outstanding client facing service. We are excited and huge shout out to Constance and the team. Bravo!
I have purchased two structures/buildings from them and have been greatly satisfied. From "idea to implementation" it has gone smoothly. I love the idea of having one single point of contact (Noah) for any questions or concerns. The install crew comes in and gets right to work and the quality is the best I have seen. Highly Recommend!
I worked with Bryan Valadez in putting together my bids for a 2000 SF shop/garage. He was great to work with, very quick to respond and answered all my questions and concerns during several very thorough conversations regarding my project. I recommend you give Bulldog a shot when searching for your next building, their pricing was very good compared with some of the others, and they just seemed to have it very together for their process. Great Job, thanks Bryan. Jason
Showed up on time and excellent quality. Could not be more pleased with the results!
I called and spoke to Bryan. With some back and forth he helped me finalize the design (40x100 foot print). I placed my order and had to wait for my King County building permit to be issued. Once the slab was completed the installation team arrived with all the pieces. They got right to work and the building was completed in 8 days !!! I would highly recommend Bryan and Bulldog to any one :) Many thanks john in the pacific northwest
Great company to do business with. Would recommend them to others.
Great to deal with. Building went up with no problems.
I had a great experience with Bulldog Steel Buildings. The representatives were able to help me move from the online design to an actual building design to meet my goals. They set up the delivery and installation which turned out great. Installation was scheduled quickly after the foundation was done; and the building was completed within 2 days. Pricing was reasonable, and I'm very pleased with my new building.
Bryan was great- honest, helpful, responsive and knowledgeable. I will call him if I ever need another steel building
This company is the real deal. They go over and beyond to satisfy their customers. It is a joy to work with them. They are very knowledgeable and efficient. I looked forward to finishing my project with them.
Humberto was very responsive and it was a pleasure to work with. He went above and beyond to get delivery scheduled as soon as possible for our 30x50 building. Great company to work with.
Hey folks - these people at Bulldog are real. Noah helped me all the way through - extremely patient and knowledgeable. He answers most often and when he doesn't it's easy to get another HUMAN to speak with. I looked at several companies for this project - I settled on the right one. If you wind up doing business with Brian - you're in luck there to. Outstanding work - worthy of trust.
I purchased a 26x32 Garage from Bulldog Steel Structures they had it finished in two days. It looks really nice and the install crew was great. I’m thinking of getting another building and I will definitely contact Bryan Valadez again at Bulldog.
Great experience from start to finish. The sales process was easy and Casey helped me revise my plans several times to get the right building for my needs. Communication was excellent! The build crew was on time, friendly and professional. Beto took the time to understand what cutouts I needed and why I needed them in the sizes planned. Exceptional work. Highly recommend. Thank you!
I would recommend Bulldog Steel Structures highly. They are very professional and accommodating. Want to give special thanks to Randall Hall and also matt preslar. They were very accommodating and helping me fill out paperwork and handling things when a timely basis. The building we were very satisfied with and the installers also were very polite and had things done on a timely basis. Thanks again Randall and Matt you`ve got my five star rating
Bulldog has been great to work with. They explained everything from beginning to end. I live in the mountains of New Mexico and the staff made sure that my garage had the right support needed for this area of the country. I would highly recommend them for anyone building a new carport or gaeage!
Good design tool on their website. Great customer service.
Have had nothing but a positive experience with Bulldog! Bryan was super helpful and still is after our install! He still responds super prompt and helpful. No complaints about our structure, as it looks amazing! Installers did a great job and picked up very nicely after they were done. Highly recommend!!
I have now had my building in place for 3 months and I want to say that the whole team at Bulldog was very helpful throughout the entire process. My salesperson, Matthew, was extremely responsive. He was very helpful with the design phase, where we went back and forth with 3-4 different designs before settling on the perfect one. He always got back to me right away when I had a question. Although the delivery was delayed, understandable with the pandemic, he helped interface with Carolina Carports when I had delivery questions. So far I have no issues with the completed building. No leaks and all the doors are functioning perfectly. I would highly recommend using Bulldog for all your metal building needs.
Frank Rangel was very helpful and respectful. Also very understanding. I was pouring a concrete driveway and trying to put my down payment down. I may of got a little frustrated in the middle of it all. I could see the smile on Frank`s face the whole time! Thank you sir!
This is my second building from bulldog and I`m buying the same building , just different colors. They are great buildings that are strong and economical.
Excellent customer service during my order process, answered all my questions and they were very patient.
The website was very flexible and helped me customize my carport. The Bulldog staff was very prompt and helpful throughout the process.
Put up a RV cover for me on a concrete pad. Turned out great and the guys cleaned up after the work. Very satisfied. Would recommend these people.
I love my “She Shop.” It was amazingly easy. I sent an email, made 2 phones calls and it was done. The installation went even easier. Three guys showed up one day and finished the next. They were polite and cleaned up after themselves. My husband’s friends are all very impressed with the construction and materials used but were amazed at the reasonable price. I could not be more pleased. Thank you
I visited their website and used the 3D estimator and was able to see my building with doors, window placements, colors, and overall look. When you add or change any feature, including size, you can immediately see the result and change in price (if any). You can rotate the structure to see the overall look and framework. Once I placed my order, it was quickly and efficiently handled and the cost was lower than the estimate on the website The installers showed up early one morning and by noon the next day they had completed the structure. Everyone that comes by remarks on how nice it looks. I am very pleased with every aspect from ordering to installation.
