7 Ways To Upgrade Your Metal Building or Carport
When you make large purchases, months or years down the road, you always think about what you could’ve done differently to that item to make it just that much better. Well, we have a few upgrades for your metal building, and it’s not too late for them.
There are so many options available to take your metal garage, barn, or carport to the next level.
Add Insulation to Your Garage or Barn
One great upgrade to consider is adding insulation. We offer three major types of metal building insulation:
- Double Bubble
- 2″ Fiberglass
- Woven R17
Double bubble insulation is the cheaper option and offers more of a moisture barrier while being about 5/16″ thick. Woven insulation is a little more expensive and offers more temperature control while being about ¾” thick.
It’s always a great precautionary measure to have the extra layers. Ask your building specialists if these are available in your area and the different benefits of these insulations.
Find the Best Size for Your Needs
The biggest regret we get from customers is that they didn’t go large enough with their building. Although there are standard sizes for specific needs, we always find a way to get more stuff and can always use more space to store it all. While standard sizes on the brochures are available from 12′ wide to 70′ wide and 20′ long to 50′ long, custom sizes are also available.
You’re not required to adhere to brochure sizing and can customize the width and length of your building to fit your needs.
Make Your Building Sturdier With 12-Gauge Framing
12-gauge framing is a great upgrade for any steel structure. When buying your structure, you may have had it quoted with 14-gauge framing. It’s not too late for an upgrade, and this is one you may need.
12-gauge framing is heavier, thicker, and stronger than your standard 14-gauge frame, making your structure stronger and even longer-lasting. The warranty typically increases as well.
Improve Aesthetics With Dutch Openings
Dutch openings, or 45° angle frame-outs, are a great alternative to your standard square frame-outs. Dutch openings don’t change the structural stability, but they do look much better than the standard.
Add Vertical Siding To Help Fight the Elements
Typically, vertical siding is a great upgrade because it’s more weather resistant than the standard horizontal paneling. Vertical siding has corrugations running up and down instead of side to side. This allows for any dirt or water to come off the barn or garage faster and easier.
Also, when you upgrade your building with vertical siding, you get additional “purlins” inside the building that aid in the structural integrity.
Add Wainscoting or “Two-Tone” Siding
Wainscoting, also known as “two-tone,” is another great visual upgrade that lets you add more color and offers a higher curb appeal for your steel barn or metal garage.
If your sides and end panels are horizontal, you can take advantage of this upgrade at no cost. Vertical sides can also be upgraded to include wainscoting for an additional cost.
Improve Durability & Style With Gable Ends
While gable ends serve a great cosmetic purpose, they also add side-to-side strength due to the additional frame support and steel panels. Though gable ends are only offered on carports or open lean-to’s, they help tremendously to keep the sun off your vehicles.
