5 Things To Do Before Buying a Metal Building
Purchasing a metal building can be quite a large investment, and significant investments almost always tend to come with some fear and uncertainty. Even with experienced building specialists readily available to help, it can be hard to speak with someone when you’re not exactly sure what you want yet. What we have learned from working with customers over the years is that the most challenging part is knowing where to start, and we are here to help with just that!
Listed below are the first five steps we recommend doing to help the process seem less overwhelming and ensure you get the most accurate information along the way.
1. Determine the Purpose
This is the easiest step because all you need to do is jot down what you want a metal building for. It could be to house a vehicle and tools, have an agricultural farm, use for storage, or a space for your family to hang out.
The possibilities with custom metal buildings are endless, so be realistic and write down what you envision using this building for.
2. Call Your County, City & HOA
One of the major challenges when trying to purchase a metal building is realizing that you can’t build exactly what you want. You can design the best building and then find out when you get a permit that it doesn’t meet local requirements.
Below are some questions to ask your county, city, and HOA.
3. Find a Contractor for Your Foundation
Our manufacturers will install your building at no additional cost if your installation site adheres to their terms. However, they will not level your lot, clear it, or pour concrete. If your county requires your new metal building to be built on concrete, you must have the concrete pad poured before your lead time can start.
This step could come before or after the next two steps, which are designing your building and getting a quote. We listed it before because we have found that some people have trouble finding a contractor. Once you find one, we recommend getting a quote for the size pad you think you may need. This will give you a ballpark estimate even if the dimensions of your building change in the following steps.
4. Design Your Building
Once you know what you can do and have a clear idea of your budget, you get to do the fun part, design! You can use the 3D Builder or call and explain the building to a specialist who can design it for you!
5. Get a Quote
With the design and size in mind, you can now see what that will cost you. Our quotes are free, and there is no limit on how many you can receive. At Bulldog Steel Structures, you will have a building specialist who will stay in contact with you and get you the answers you need.
We are not naive to the fact that you need to shop around for the best price. When price shopping, one thing to keep in mind is if you find a better price for the same quality, you can submit that quote for a price match request.
